Continuation of the Life in the Village

Art and crafts

During down times, when the bulk of the farm work is done and herding is not a major preoccupation,  village artisans generally work at their arts and crafts.  They produce: Baskets, Leather goods, handmade pots, blankets and tunics woven from sheep's wool.  Artisan work is done according to the cast system and is often based on gender. For example Maabubhe do cloth weaving, lawbhe wood carving and waylubhe jewelry and metal work. There are also the local tailor who can sew beautiful hand or machine embroidery, the traditional healer, the teacher and the merchants.

Schooling

When a child is  seven years old, they are been sent to a public school. Generally, there is  only one elementary school in the village. For example standard 1, Basic , and secondary school, and most of us used small black to write. Rich parents send their children to boarding school in a nearby town and only come home on weekends and holidays.
The Muslins send children to Islamic schools, and parents viewed western schools with suspicion. Nowadays however, everyone is happy to have a school in their village. Parents take the education of their children seriously, and they are proud when their children do well in school. Students respect the teachers very much. When the teacher enters the classroom, the children stand politely with their hands behind their backs. They also stand when they ask or answer questions.
